Terry Bailey's paintings of yachts competing on the coastal waters of North America and of the British Isles assure him of a place alongside such great Artists of this genre as James E. Buttersworth and Montague Dawson.
His intimate knowledge of the yachts and of their handling in all manner of seas has become inherent through his experiences over the years as the owner of a classic yacht.
Terry describes his understanding and love of yachts as being similar to that of the trainer of thoroughbreds for his horses. “No two yachts are the same however much they look alike. Each has its own character. Each performs in its own way. My passion is to capture that essential essence in my paintings.”
A traditionalist in every respect, Terry uses only oil paint. “Oil paint has stood the test of centuries and I want my paintings to survive for all time. Besides, the modern quick drying synthetic paints do not suit my mood of working. My paintings progress at their own pace, as if each had a life of its own. In this manner the details fall into place in correct relation to each other.”
A full member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists, Terry has selected Marine Arts Gallery of Salem, Massachusetts to be his exclusive World wide representative.
Born in Manchester , England in 1941.
